Sinema Üzerinden Kriz Yönetimini Okumak
Özet
Dr. Ebru Özer Topaloğlu tarafından kaleme alınan "Sinema Üzerinden Kriz Yönetimini Okumak" başlıklı çalışma, örgütlerde kriz yönetiminin önemini ve liderlerin kriz anlarındaki karar alma süreçlerini Sully filmi üzerinden incelemektedir. Krizler, örgütlerin temel hedeflerini tehdit eden, işleyişi bozan, belirsizlik barındıran ve hızlı müdahale gerektiren olağanüstü olaylardır. Çalışmada, 2009 yılında LaGuardia Havalimanı’ndan kalkan US Airways uçuşunda motorlara kuş sürüsü çarpması sonucu Kaptan Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger'in uçağı Hudson Nehri'ne zorunlu indirme kararı ve süreci analiz edilmektedir.
The study titled "Reading Crisis Management Through Cinema," authored by Dr. Ebru Özer Topaloğlu, thoroughly examines the importance of crisis management in organizations and the decision-making processes of leaders during crises through the movie Sully. Crises are extraordinary events that threaten the primary goals of organizations, disrupt operations, involve uncertainty, and require prompt intervention. The study analyzes the decision and process of Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger making a forced landing on the Hudson River after a flock of birds struck the engines of a US Airways flight departing from LaGuardia Airport in 2009. At this critical juncture where rulebooks and standard procedures proved insufficient on their own, Captain Sully took the initiative based on his experience and intuition, taking a calculated risk and saving the lives of 155 people. Investigations and simulations conducted after the incident revealed that when the human factor and actual response time were taken into account, returning to the airport was impossible, proving that the decision prevented a much greater catastrophe. Consequently, the study demonstrates that crisis management does not merely consist of theoretical rules and plans; rather, experience, leadership, composure, intuition, and team alignment must be managed holistically. Flexible, swift, and accurate decisions made by managers during crisis periods are of vital importance for the organization's survival and successful emergence from the crisis.
