This study evaluates 22 countries and the European Union, including G20 members and participants, in terms of tax indicators using a hybrid CRITIC-based CoCoSo multi-criteria decision-making approach. Taxation serves as a vital fiscal policy tool for macroeconomic stability and public service funding, yet tax avoidance, tax havens, and opaque tax expenditures pose significant challenges globally. Utilizing 2021 data across six tax indicators—corporate, personal income, sales tax rates, and social security contribution rates—the objective CRITIC method determines criteria weights, identifying the sales tax rate as the most critical factor and the overall social security rate as the least influential. The CoCoSo method subsequently evaluates and ranks the overall taxation environments of the assessed nations. The final results reveal that Switzerland achieves the top performance ranking, providing the most favorable individual and corporate tax environment, followed closely by Indonesia, the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Canada. Conversely, established European Union members, specifically France, the Netherlands, and Italy, occupy the bottom ranks, reflecting stricter tax policies and heavier tax burdens on citizens and corporations. Overall, this research fills a significant gap in fiscal literature by providing policymakers and academics with a comprehensive, objective multi-criteria evaluation of global tax environments.
