Unmanned Aircraft Design: A Review of Fundamentals, authored by Mohammad Sadraey and edited for translation by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hacı Soğukpınar, comprehensively addresses the engineering principles, design processes, and subsystems of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) across three main parts using a holistic approach. The first part of the book examines UAV classifications, feasibility analysis, decision-making mechanisms, the systems engineering approach, and the conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design stages, alongside core disciplines such as aerodynamic, structural, propulsion, landing gear, and control surface design. The second part details autopilot design, covering dynamic modeling, flight control architectures, inertial and GPS navigation, guidance laws, microcontrollers, and advanced autonomy topics such as sense-and-avoid and automatic recovery. The third part presents ground control station subsystems, communication techniques, launch and recovery systems such as parachutes and catapults, as well as the integration of reconnaissance, radar, and military payloads. Designed as both a reference for engineers entering the field and an academic textbook, this comprehensive work introduces all components of a UAV system at the system level.
